Shinn Systems got out of the game in 2024 — and sends their customers to us. Powertek is the only OEM-grade source for service, retrofit, and remanufacture on Shinn power packs and cutterheads. We're not a shop that works on Shinn units. We're the shop that made them.

Why "factory" is the right word

Eleven years as the manufacturing source

From 2013 through 2024, our shop in Concord, NC designed and built the Shinn Systems grinding package — the diesel hydraulic power pack and the cutterhead — private-labeled to Shinn, who sold them to their customers.

Powertek's founder, Ron McMurphy, joined Shinn Systems in 1998 to help design and prototype the original power pack, and engineered the electrical controls and hydraulics on the line ever since. Every design change was implemented by Ron — Denison hydraulics in 1999, Rexroth in 2005, Linde in 2009. We hold the complete design specs for every legacy configuration still running in the field.

Nobody else can say any of that.

As long as the engine runs, we can make the rest of it new — for a fraction of the cost of a new unit:

  • Modern hydraulics — upgrade to the new 280-pump hydraulic system, or reman your existing pump and motor
  • All-digital control panel — no more leaky hydraulic gauges in the cab, burned-out indicator bulbs, or throttle-cable pump control

  • Your cutterhead retrofitted too — the whole package, updated as one system

Pack is good, carrier is worn out?

There's a transfer option: we pull the power pack off the old excavator, install it on a newer one, and retrofit it in the same job — up and running with Powertek Connect, without buying a new pack.

Every retrofit and transfer is quoted after inspection of your unit — call with the serial number and we'll get it scheduled.

Who repairs Shinn power packs now that Shinn Systems is out?

My unit is 15+ years old. Can you still work on it?

Yes. We hold the complete design specs for every legacy configuration still running in the field — Denison hydraulics from 1999, Rexroth from 2005, Linde from 2009. If it came off this line, we know it.

Can you rebuild a Shinn cutterhead too?

Yes — pump and motor rebuilds, hydraulic overhaul, controls, and complete cutterhead work. The full retrofit updates the power pack and your cutterhead as one system.

Can an old Shinn unit be upgraded with modern controls?

That's our hero offer. As long as the engine runs: modern hydraulics — the new 280-pump system, or a reman of your existing pump and motor — an all-digital control panel replacing the old in-cab hydraulic gauges and throttle-cable control, and Powertek Connect standard, with live machine data on your phone and our support team in Concord watching it run.

My power pack is fine but my excavator is worn out. Options?

Yes — the transfer: we pull the pack off the old carrier, install it on a newer excavator, and retrofit it in the same job.
